Is starting a blog in 2020 a good idea? This is a question that many people ask because of the assumption that the blogging space is flooded. Well, guess what else is flooded? Planet earth. Yet more babies are being born everyday and somehow we have enough space for them.

My point is, no matter how many blogs there are in the world. There’s still enough room for you to shine. So yes, starting a blog in 2020 is a good idea. Yes, you can still make money blogging in 2020. In fact, there are more opportunities than ever to profit online. So what are you waiting for?

Here are 5 steps to help you start a blog in 2020:

1. Choose a niche

You can’t appeal to everybody with your blog. So, you should choose a niche and focus on creating content around it. I once heard someone say that the riches are in the niches. The more specific your blog is, the easier it will be to build an audience and make profit.

If people know that you’re the go-to person for content on fitness and exercise, they’ll come to you for only that. If you run a blog about love and relationships, people can keep your name in their heads and refer you to a friend who needs advice. So think about it, what would you like your blog to be about? It has to be something you’re comfortable learning and writing about on a regular basis.

2. Pick a name

Now that you’ve chosen a niche, it’s time to decide what your blog will be called. If you don’t intend to use your name, then be sure that the name you choose reflects the purpose of the blog. For example, when you come across the blogs clevergirlfinance.com or iwillteachyoutoberich.com , you know that they’re talking about money.

Also, whatmomslove.com and twinsmommy.com are obviously blogs about motherhood. Make sure that the name you choose communicates what you’re about to your readers to avoid confusion. It’s also a great idea to have multiple choices just in case one of the names you want isn’t available.

3. Get a domain name and hosting service

A domain name is your unique address on the internet like the one you’re on right now, jolasotubo.com. After choosing a name for your blog, check to make sure that it’s still available online. Once you’ve identified that the domain name is available, it’s time to get a hosting service for your site. One good service to use is Bluehost. They have various affordable plans and you can even get a domain name free of charge.

4. Build your blog with WordPress

WordPress is one of the easiest platforms for creating a blog. You can customize it with a nice theme and necessary plugins such as Yoast SEO, Google analytics (for measuring traffic) and anti-spam to prevent bots from leaving comments.

WordPress is very easy to use and you don’t have to be tech whiz to find your way around it. When I started blogging, I had zero knowledge of content management platforms. Now, however, I can make amendments to my sites without asking anyone for help. All you need is a determination to learn and improve.

5. Write great content and promote it

Content is king. There’s no substitute to creating valuable content that your readers will love. Educate yourself on your chosen niche and research the topics your audience is interested in. Listen to their needs and ask for feedback. Keep solving problems with your content. Then make sure you share that content with the world.
