Isolation Diaries (Day 24) – How Do You Talk to Yourself?

How do you talk to yourself? We all have an inner voice that wants to tell us we’re not good enough. Unfortunately, if you hear this voice long enough, you start to believe it and act according to what it says. Negative self-talk can affect your confidence and limit your success. That’s why you need to talk to yourself like the winner you are.

I stumbled on a video interview of boxer, Floyd Mayweather and it made me understand why he’s never been defeated. He talks himself up so much that I don’t think he needs a fan club. Successful people need to believe in themselves even when others doubt them and one way they stay motivated is by talking themselves up. You are a person of immense value and you need to tell yourself that everyday until there’s no doubt in your mind about it.

I am my own hype squad. I’ve developed the habit of building myself up with my words and I assure you it’s been life-changing. For too long, I depended on others to affirm me. I didn’t feel like my work was good until my boss said so. I didn’t think I was beautiful until my boyfriend told me I was. But not anymore. I have placed the weight of my happiness on God’s shoulders and mine, and we’re doing such a fantastic job.

At some point in your life, you will meet people who will say nonsense to you. They will attempt to redefine you with their misconceived notions about your personality. And they will say their nonsense with so much authority that you might be tempted to believe them.

Before that happens, form the habit of telling yourself the truth about who you are. You are fantastic, you are extraordinary, you are utterly unprecedented. Period.

So if somebody comes to tell you something different, don’t bother wasting your time with them. Their opinion is not your business. Just go home, sip your tea and remind yourself who you are. Extraordinary!!!
