I was having a conversation with my mum recently about money and how I seemed to need more and more every day. I’d been budgeting and saving and it was only making me anxious. And my mum said something I’ll never forget: “Jola you need to relax, you’re doing better than you think.”
She then proceeded to remind me that I’d been on my own since I finished school and had gotten almost no financial help from my family since then. I’ve gotten three jobs and grown progressively and built a career out of something that started as a hobby, with God on my side of course.
“Jola, just be grateful,” My mum continued. “You’re not being careless and you’re not wasteful. You’ll be okay. Just be patient.” By the time we were done, I felt much better knowing that, of course, my mother was right. I’m sure this advice applies to you too.
It’s easy to get caught up in the chase and forget all the amazing things that you’re achieving daily. Every milestone is special and important because somebody is still praying to get to the goal you’re despising. Yes, keep moving forward, but don’t forget to stay grateful and appreciate all that you’ve already done.
So I say to you today, “Relax, you’re doing better than you think.”
